Huhtamaki - Andalusia safety streak relies on dedication from employees

Safety improves when every employee makes a personal commitment. Each location in the North America segment receives that message frequently, and it is most effective when employees believe it and make it a part of the culture.

Among the employees in Andalusia, many built long-term careers at Huhtamaki. These employees not only buy into their personal commitment to safety, but they also make sure that new employees jump onboard and they work to make it a daily focus.

“We have had some long streaks in the past, and it really comes down to the people who work here,” Zach Richardson, Operations Manager. “We have a culture where employees look out for each other and feel comfortable reporting whenever they see something unsafe.”

The focus on safety goes beyond that simple habit and into corrective actions that improve safety.

“Just being more aware and taking a look each day moves us to a safer workplace,” Abigayle Rogers, HR Specialist, said. “One way we do that is with having a good response to our SOSA (Safety Observation Safety and Action) forms, which also leads to improvements. We want to promote that even more, so it becomes a part of working here in Andalusia.”
