Creating solutions that people look forward to

When we design new food packaging, we start by considering protection. How will the package keep the product fresh and in its original shape until it is opened by the consumer?

There are many variables to take into consideration: climate zones vary greatly and often packaging needs to serve the product equally in Northern Europe and in tropical climates. We also consider whether the product is meant for consumption at home or on-the-go.

In addition to this and especially to comply with circularity, waste is an issue to think about. What does the end-of-life of the packaging look like? How recyclable are the materials?

Cost-competitive and value-adding solutions are easily adoptable – let’s make sustainable packaging make business sense.

Introducing solutions ready for the market

Huhtamaki blueloop is committed to driving sustainability through action. We are continuously developing new solutions that meet our customers’ sustainability goals. By creating forward-thinking, recyclable products, we are helping to make the entire flexible packaging industry ready for the circular economy.

“We use plastic where plastic is needed and paper wherever paper is possible. We evaluate the features for each product and decide which we start to develop with. When we go with paper, we are renewable, and with both paper and plastic we are circular,” explains Senior Product Development Manager at Huhtamaki Flexible Packaging Martin Schmölz about the Huhtamaki blueloop material choices.

We continue to develop multiple monomaterial solutions that can be recycled effectively, while offering the safety and performance standards required of flexible packaging solutions.
